ABOUT
Josephine Somerville is a dynamic, expressive circus artist. Specializing in tippy lyra and german wheel, Josephine enjoys finding new and unexpected movements on any apparatus, and is particularly drawn to circles, with their finite infinity. She is inspired by human stories, emotion, and connection.
Josephine grew up reading books, singing, and playing viola on an aspiring suburban farm in Boston, MA, with her family cats, dog, occasional bees, and eventually chickens. She has been performing since age 4, singing the entire soundtrack of The Sound of Music on her grandparents porch. At age 12, Josephine went to see a circus show with her oma and fell in love. A few years later, she started taking circus classes, and soon she was spending all her free time in the air or rolling around in a wheel. After graduating college with a BS in neuroscience, Josephine completed the New England Center for Circus Arts ProTrack Program in 2023. She has graced theaters and tents in North America and Europe and is excited to continue doing circus across the globe! Off stage Josephine is also a trained and experienced circus rigger and coach. When not upside down, Josephine enjoys baking, geeking out about psychology and circademics, and spending time with her cats, Sam and Clyde.
